Every 4 years as the United States celebrates a peaceful transfer of power from the previous administration to the next, there are dozens of Inaugural Balls and Gala’s that take place in the Washington DC area. The Inaugural Balls usually come in 2 categories – sanctioned and un-sanctioned. The sanctioned balls are where the President is guaranteed to make an appearance.
Typically in the past there have been anywhere between 2-8 Official Sanctioned Inaugural Balls for the Presidential Inauguration. In 2017, President Trump held 3 sanctioned Inaugural Balls.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the status of the Official Inaugural Gala’s has not yet been determined. We are still waiting for the Presidential Inaugural Committee to release the details of this event.

While there are still many decisions to be made regarding the 2021 Presidential Inaugural Gala’s, speculation continues as to who will perform for the newly inaugurated President. We’ll continue to update this page with all news pertaining to the Inaugural Balls.
The majority of the gala’s will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington DC. This is subject to change for 2021 due to COVID precautions. Other Inaugural Balls take place at hotels and convention halls not only in and around Washington DC, but all over the country!
